A Pending Portal Bridge Transfer Explained
A pending Portal Bridge transfer is one whose tokens have left the source wallet but have not appeared in the destination wallet. The key is whether the source transaction is confirmed and the destination claim is complete.
Follow the transfer from source to destination
A bridge transfer has separate steps. First, the source blockchain records the send. Then Wormhole Guardians, a group of message signers, confirm the transfer in a signed message. Finally, that message is submitted on the destination chain so tokens can be released or created there.
Find the source transaction hash, the long ID shown in your wallet after sending. Check it in the source chain’s block explorer, a public record of transactions. For example, BaseScan can show whether a Base transaction succeeded. If it failed or is still pending there, the bridge cannot finish it yet.
If the source transaction succeeded, search its hash in Wormholescan. This shows whether the transfer message has been observed and signed, and whether a destination transaction has completed. The wait depends on source-chain finality, which is when a transaction is treated as settled, and on message signing and destination-chain activity.
Claim funds only when the destination step is missing
If Wormholescan shows the message is ready but no completed destination transaction, the transfer may need a manual claim. Reopen the official Portal Bridge recovery screen, enter the source chain and transaction hash, then follow its recovery or redeem steps. Connect the wallet for the destination chain and approve the destination transaction only after checking its network and recipient.
For example, if you sent a supported token from Base to Arbitrum and the source transaction succeeded, check the transfer record before sending again. If it is ready to redeem, claim it on Arbitrum. You will need some Arbitrum ETH for the network fee, and Portal Bridge crypto can help when the missing step is completing that cross-chain claim.
A destination claim is a new transaction, so its wallet approval may show a gas fee. Gas is the fee paid to process a transaction on that chain. The amount changes with network demand; the wallet shows the estimate before you approve. Do not repeat the original send just because the destination wallet looks empty.
Check whether the transfer finished or needs help
If Wormholescan shows a completed destination transaction, check that the destination wallet is on the right network and that you are viewing the intended address. The token may not appear in the wallet’s default list. Look up the token transfer in the destination explorer; if it arrived, use the token’s verified contract details there to display it in your wallet.
If the message is not signed yet, wait and check again instead of resending. If recovery fails, compare the source hash, destination chain, and recipient address against the original transfer before seeking support. Never share your recovery phrase or approve a transaction you cannot identify.
The answer changes if the source transaction failed, the recipient address was wrong, or the transfer is already marked complete. In those cases, a manual claim may not help; use the relevant chain’s transaction record to identify the next step.
